“Balancing Work and Family Life as a Mom and a Richmond, Virginia Photographer”

Apr 16, 2024

Hey Moms! I’m here to talk about the importance of a work and family balance; that helps you stay on track, while also being able to live in the moment. It is so easy to get consumed in our devices or thinking about our long to do list that we forget to enjoy where we’re at. Whether you’re a work from home mom, stay at home mom, or work outside of the home mom – these tips will be helpful for you!

Time Management as a Stay at Home Mom: Taking care of your home is a full-time job in itself. The tasks will be never ending. From the dishes in the sink, to the laundry, there will always be something to do. It’s okay to let the laundry sit in the dryer for the night, so you can spend quality family time.

Time Management as a Work from Home Mom: Having designated times for working will be so beneficial in knowing when to put the work aside and enjoy your family. Working from home can be challenging as it is easy to get caught up in checking one last email or responding to one more inquiry. However, we have to be aware of our mental and physical health that are just as important – if not, more important. Scheduling content is my best friend. I will set time aside out of my day to schedule content for the entire month. You can also schedule your posts, reels, and stories.

Time Managment as a 9-5 Mom: Let’s not forget our moms who have to come home from work, just to have to do work around the house. A timer is going to be your best friend in these moments. Set a 30-minute timer to get as much household chores done as you can within that time frame. You can also set a 10-minute timer for playing with your children. You can set the time for as little or as much as you want. Grab your babies and snuggle in bed with books during that time, play blocks or simply chat about your day. Just remember, teaching your children how to help with dinner and cleaning is still quality time. And even though it may slow us down – I think that’s the point and beauty of it.

Let’s recap with tips you can write down and stick on your fridge or notes you can put in your phone:

Tip 1: Set a timer. This can be as little or as much as you want.

Tip 2: Set a schedule. “My cleaning schedule is 30 minutes.” “My working hours are 8am-1pm.”

Tip 3: Schedule Content. You can schedule your posts, stories and reels.

Tip 4: Be present in the moment. Everything will still be there waiting for you after.

Tip 5: Don’t forget to fill your own cup. Take a walk and feel grounded while you smell the spring air, read your favorite book, take a bath.

Conclusion: There are only 24 hours in a day. Although your workday hours may be set, your home hours are up to you. You get to decide how you spend them. You can either worry about the what ifs that haven’t even happened, or the workday that has come and gone, or you can spend your present time being present. Your feelings are valid so let’s not forget to validate them, vent, workout, cry – do what you need! Your babies need you; your partner needs you. Most importantly, you need you. Don’t forget to give yourself grace.
